Third Frisian storage location for Storage Share in Leeuwarden
LEEUWARDEN – The fast-growing storage platform Storage Share is now also coming to Leeuwarden. Around 260 storage units, totalling 1,300 m², are being created on Lange Marktstraat. Storage Share gives vacant industrial units and offices a new lease of life by converting them into storage units for private households’ belongings.
In the former Aegon office at 11 Lange Marktstraat, part of the office has been converted into storage units on behalf of Storage Share and the developer Leyten Vastgoedontwikkeling. “These storage units are mainly let to private individuals looking for a temporary place to store their household effects,” explains Tom de Keijzer, property acquirer at Storage Share. “We’re also seeing many self-employed people with tools or business owners renting spaces.”
First tenants sign up
The first tenants have now come forward and stored their belongings. One of them is Look Haandrikman from Leeuwarden: “I’ll soon be moving in with my partner in the south of the country and am selling my house in Leeuwarden. To help with the sale, I’m already clearing some things out of the house. Once the house has been sold, I’ll probably store a bit more furniture, as between us we have almost all the furniture in duplicate.”
Third location in Friesland
De Keijzer expects the units to be let quickly: “We’re seeing that demand for storage units is no longer limited to the Randstad, but that there’s also a need for high-quality and affordable storage units in more rural areas. The Leeuwarden site is our third in the province of Friesland, following Drachten and Sneek, and therefore fits in perfectly with our ambition to establish a nationwide network.”
Shared Economy
Storage Share lets out vacant properties at around forty locations as temporary storage units for private individuals and businesses. On the one hand, these are offices that have stood empty for a long time and are no longer suitable as office space due to their location or level of facilities. On the other hand, Storage Share rents out industrial units that are completely refurbished and used on a long-term basis for the storage of household effects and business stock.
“In this way, we are contributing to the economy of meaning,” de Keijzer concludes. “We make vacant property profitable again and prevent demolition and the associated waste stream.”
